Note Synchronization and End-to-End Encryption in Joplin
Joplin Server offers high-performance note synchronization. Here is how to configure clients, encrypt notes, and share notebooks.
Client Sync Configuration
- Open Joplin on your Desktop, Mobile, or Web Client.
- Go to Tools > Options > Synchronization.
- Select Joplin Server as the sync target.
- Enter the Joplin Server URL (e.g.,
https://joplin.example.com/api) and your account email/password.
Enforcing End-to-End Encryption (E2EE)
To ensure absolute note privacy: 1. In Joplin settings, navigate to Encryption. 2. Click Enable Encryption and set a strong master password. 3. Joplin will encrypt all notes locally before uploading them to the server. Your note data is completely private.
Sharing Notebooks
- Right-click any notebook in Joplin and select Share Notebook.
- Enter the email of the target user (who must have an account on your Joplin Server) to collaborate on notebooks in real time.
